Job Title: Network Planning Engineer Scottish and Southern Energy
Description

As part of SSE Power Distribution (SSEPD), the Network Planning (North) team is responsible for the planning and development of the high voltage distribution networks in the North of Scotland. The team’s responsibilities include investment management of the network to meet growth in demand and renewable generation, and identifying project solutions to improve the health and performance of the network.  


As part of a strong and dynamic team you will contribute to the planning and development of the distribution networks in line with SSEPD’s Licence obligations and the objectives set by the industry regulator in the Price Control Reviews. This includes managing the safety, security and reliability of these networks and assets by monitoring condition and performance, and then prioritising and proposing capital investment projects that are delivered by our teams in Depots and Programmes. This includes both reinforcement and refurbishment schemes from small scale to over £1 million. This role can be based from Inverness, Perth or Aberdeen.


Network Planners provide a key role within Power Systems business, ensuring that available Capital is spent efficiently and effectively. You will be required to demonstrate an ability to work well with external customers and consultants, and with other internal departments within Power Systems. In addition you will be required to show strong leadership and good judgement in decision making, often within conflicting demands and views. As such you should possess good analytical skills, an ability to solve problems on a logical basis, and then communicate proposals and associated reasoning.

 

With a minimum of an HNC or equivalent in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a technical knowledge of Power Systems networks, standards and procedures you’ll demonstrate good communications skills, be flexible and have the ability to adapt to new challenges. You should have the ability to influence others, deal with conflict and achieve results and monitor and manage workloads to meet deadlines and achieve targets. Commercial Awareness is important to the success of this role as well as a focus on delivering a high level of customer service.
