UK Power Networks is one of the largest Electricity Distribution Network Operators in the UK delivering power to a quarter of the UK market, including London.
Reporting to the Projects Commercial Manager, the Quantity Surveyor will manage the ongoing commercial relationship with suppliers of groundworks and other services. You will also provide analysis and cost verification of costs booked to service orders. The role will encompass contract valuations and assessment and approval of variation claims.
Strong commercial acumen together with excellent relationship management is an essential part of this varied role. The role incorporates estimating, procurement, risk and opportunity management, project variation, commercial management, trade contractor and consultant administration, cost reporting, record keeping and claims preparation.
The Quantity Surveyor will work with the local projects team to achieve commercial rigour in its activities, particularly with regards to outsourced work. Through liaison with projects design team members and delivery staff, the Quantity Surveyor should achieve efficient settlement and closure of over 1000 project accounts with a combined value in excess of £10m per year.
To be the successful candidate you will:
- Hold a degree or equivalent level qualification in Quantity Surveying or have a proven record of success in similar role coupled with a qualification at HND / HNC level
- Ideally hold a professional qualification and / or RICS membership
- Have experience working in a contracting commercial department ideally on multi-disciplined projects
- Have previous experience in a QS environment, preferably within a utility or civil (infrastructure) environment
- Possess working knowledge of NRSWA, NEC and other over-arching legislation or codes of practice
- Possess knowledge of supply chain environment, contracts and have experience in contract negotiations
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence and negotiate at all levels, both internally and externally
