Salary: Up to £47,000
The role of the Electrical Engineer is to provide specialist electrical engineering support to all aspects of my client’s UK Renewables business. The role will involve both office and site based activities, supporting projects from their initial development stage, into construction through to the operational phase and beyond.
This role would ideally suit ex-military candidates and applications from ex-service personnel are actively encouraged.
Principal Accountabilities
• Specialist support to sites in development; including initial feasibility studies (fault level, load flow, voltage rise etc) along with high level site engineering (identification of best site connection positions, identification of pre-existing circuits etc) and more specific support regarding input into the planning process (developing site layouts, equipment location, footprints, building/compound dimensions etc), scheme sanction etc. Detailed and on-going engagement with the DNO/NGET to ensure that a suitable risk-targeted technical connection is secured with acceptable technical and commercial conditions.
• Development of individual fundamental site designs from technical, commercial and H&S perspectives. Preparation of bespoke technical specifications for individual projects, aligned with the site procurement and contracting strategy. Performing of design reviews against the above specification. Provision of project engineering during the construction and commissioning stages, ensuring quality and technical compliance. Provision of technical support to procurement and project functions with regard to the negotiating of supply agreements (i.e. RFI, Framework etc). This extends to the performing of due diligence activities with regard to acquisitions etc.
• To ensure equipment is designed and provided such that it meets npower renewables’ requirements, thereby controlling risks associated with project delivery (time, budget & quality), technical standards, functionality, commercial operation, H&S etc. Limiting technical risk and ensuring procured assets meet operational and H&S requirements.
• Responsible for developing knowledge and competency cover within the area. Responsibility for development & ownership of associated corporate, policy, technical and workflow documentation, engagement with stakeholders to develop policy etc. Involvement in technical audit activities. Specialist electrical engineering support to Operations from both a technical and asset operation/commercial perspective.
• Manage communications & procedures associated with the role & specialist competency area with both stakeholders and the Electrical Technology team.
• To assist in understanding operational problems fully, to help develop and deliver improved solutions that can be rolled-out across the operational fleet, ultimately improving plant availability/commercial operations.
• Ensure corporate interests are represented and protected. Maintain understanding & competency levels with stakeholders & team member
Knowledge and Skills
• Considerable experience providing specialist electrical engineering support across a number of technology types for; this shall extend across voltage levels from LV to EHV and generation technologies ranging from generation in the kW to multi-hundred MW range
• Ability to handle complex and pressured problems and balance the requirements of the business against constraining forces
• Preferably degree qualified (or equivalent through experience)
