The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for producing designs, quotations and work packs that meet company requirements based on company standards.
The Design Team is accountable for all design works up to 132kV. As the Electrical Design Engineer you will ensure effective technical liaison with internal and external design engineers, be responsible for the designs and quotations in your portfolio and will engage the use of external resources based on the complexity and timescales required for the design. You will also be expected to provide appropriate and effective technical and design advice to internal and external Project Managers, Designers, Field Teams and Commissioning Engineers.
Normally work will be undertaken within an office environment although site visits with technical experts and site staff will be required, as well as visits to supplier’s factories for acceptance testing of equipment. The design process is not defined and even with the introduction of standards a deep understanding of the work is required and the use of both theoretical and learned knowledge is required to ensure success.
You will also be expected to provide technical support and mentoring to Trainee Designers and other parts of the Business.
As the successful applicant you will have:
- A relevant technical degree and/or HND/C or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience
- Excellent knowledge and experience with computer based design drawing tools and AutoCAD / MicroStation skills
- An IOSH qualification
- An understanding and experience of the specifications and procedures for the safe design, construction, installation and operation of electrical plant, (transformers, switchgear, cables) and buildings
- Knowledge and use of relevant internal and external standard documents, guidance and legislation
- Good Construction, Design and Management (CDM) knowledge and understanding
- An understanding of disciplines outside of normal scope of work and their effect on the design i.e. Civil Engineer needs to have an understanding of the electrical design and visa versa for Electrical Engineer
- The drive to take forward design projects and engage internal and external expert parties, to make objective judgements and understand implications
- The ability to build good working relationships within a team and with other staff within the business and external.
- Customer focus with the ability to work with others to improve customer service and enhance service provision without losing sight of safety and security of supply
